Kaposia Students Take on Cancer with Ninja Spirit

At Kaposia Education Center, students are channeling the strength, courage, and determination of ninja warriors in the fight against cancer. What began three years ago as a heartfelt tribute to a friend who passed away from cancer has grown into a powerful movement of hope and action. In honor of their friend’s memory, students set out to raise money for new ninja warrior equipment in the gym and they’ve since raised more than $40,000 to bring that vision to life.

Today, that equipment does more than challenge bodies, it fuels a mission. The school’s after-school ninja and gymnastics camps now serve a greater purpose: raising funds for families in our district who are affected by cancer.

This year, the students chose to support Jim Sund, a South St. Paul grandfather of two Kaposia students who is currently undergoing cancer treatment. Through their dedication and hard work, the Ninja Warrior Leadership Team raised $520 to help Jim and his family with medical bills and other needs. On April 29, students, staff, family, and friends gathered for a ceremony where Jim was presented with a check along with the love and strength of an entire school community.
