Black History Month and National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID)

February is Black History Month. This month is an opportunity for us to highlight the experiences, stories, and realities of Black and African American students, staff, families, and community. Throughout the month SSPPS will be promoting Black History Month and related events from the Office of Equity & Learning.

South St. Paul Public Schools is also hosting events in honor of National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) Monday, February 13. We are excited to celebrate with ALL families. While NAAPID centers our relationship with and prompts engagement from African American families, all families are invited to attend. This is a day that is centered on both Black history and culture and parent involvement from all of our families. NAAPID is a day for all parents to come to their child's school, see what their day is like and to support their child's educational future.

Daytime activities and work schedules often conflict! Did you know that since 1990 Minnesota law has allowed every employee the right to 16 hours of leave during the school year to attend their child(ren)’s conferences or school related activities? You must let your employer know in advance. We hope this helps make daytime activities more accessible for more families.
